Classic Brazilian Caipirinha

1 1/2 to 2 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
2 ounces cachaça rum
Lime wedge, for optional garnish
Cut lime into thin wedges. The method that works for me is to cut the lime length wise in half and continue to cut those halves in half.
Add lime wedges to a cocktail glass along with the remaining ingredients, white sugar, and 2 ounces of cachaca. Using your muddling tool, muddle all the ingredients together, making sure to get as much of the fresh lime juice and oils as possible.
Once muddled, add a handful of ice. Using the top half of your shaker cover the glass and shake vigorously. Pour into your favorite cocktail glass, top with garnish, and enjoy a delicious Caipirinha!
